Oh Katrina
The blasts of wind and rain,
Was nothing to this,
Darkness as empty of light
As my spirit was of hope
The flood waters were into
The second floor, as
We tried to cut a hole,
Through the roof. My hands bled.
All we worked for,
Irreplaceable items of memory,
Ruined gone destroyed
We have lived here 45 years
Hurricanes have happened before
This was just supposed to be one more.
My wife and I climbed through
The roof to see a scene...like...
Hell visited itself upon the land.
By the moon light I could see a body
Floating...Oh, Katrina, Katrina...I am sorry
This horror does not deserve your good name.
In memory of the many, who have endured a nightmare that I may have not, nor can I even imagine.
